​This workshop provides an evidence-based overview of antidepressant use during pregnancy, helping participants understand the balance between treating perinatal mental health conditions and minimizing potential risks. Participants will gain a clearer understanding of the current research while learning how collaborative, informed decision making can support the health and well-being of both parent and baby.

This workshop will explore:

  • ​​Medications during pregnancy, including the current evidence surrounding antidepressant use, common misconceptions, and how to evaluate risks and benefits using an individualized approach.

  • Depression and anxiety during pregnancy and postpartum, including the impact untreated mental health conditions can have on both the parent and developing baby, and why timely treatment matters.

  • Collaboration with your healthcare providers, with practical guidance on having informed conversations, advocating for your mental health needs, and making shared decisions that align with your values and circumstances.

​Even though this workshop will be led by a physician, it is educational in nature and is not intended to replace individualized medical care, therapy, or mental health treatment. Dr. Esther Rollhaus is a Board-Certified psychiatrist specializing in reproductive mental health and perinatal psychiatry. In addition to her clinical practice, Dr. Rollhaus speaks to professional and community audiences, drawing on a background that spans adult, child, and adolescent psychiatry. Her focus areas include women's mental health across the lifespan, the intersection of hormones and mental health, attachment and early development, and psychiatric pharmacology in the perinatal period.

​Dr. Rollhaus translates complex clinical and research topics into accessible, practical content for a range of audiences. She has taught medical students, trained interdisciplinary healthcare teams, and presented at conferences, community events, and professional organizations.
